The Sixth Belt and Road China-Malaysia Business Dialogue convened in Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in April 2026, drawing over 200 government officials and business leaders from both nations. The event produced a landmark set of agreements signaling a deepening of economic ties across agriculture, tourism, energy, and artificial intelligence.

Historic Agreements: 26 Projects, ~US$72 Million

A total of 26 cooperation projects were signed at the dialogue, valued at approximately 495 million yuan (roughly US$72 million). These agreements mark a decisive shift from traditional commodity-based trade toward deeper industrial synergy and integrated supply chains between the two countries.

Key Sectors of Cooperation

  • Modern Agriculture: Ningxia is already Malaysia's largest regional agricultural supplier, exporting cool-climate vegetables, goji berries, and frozen potatoes. New agreements deepen this relationship, ensuring greater food security and agri-trade complementarity.
  • Tourism & Culture: Malaysian tourists became the top source of international visitors to Ningxia in 2025. Both sides committed to expanding cultural exchanges, tourism promotion, and cross-border connectivity.
  • Energy Transition & AI: Discussions highlighted joint venture opportunities in clean energy technologies and artificial intelligence platforms, positioning both nations at the frontier of the global green economy.
  • Trade & Investment: New industrial corridors and investment frameworks were agreed upon to create a more seamless bilateral business environment.

Strategic Significance

Officials on both sides described the dialogue as a vital platform for party-to-party and business-to-business exchanges, aimed at fostering stability and pragmatic cooperation amidst global economic uncertainty. The event underscored Ningxia's growing role as an inland open-economy pilot zone for China's Belt and Road Initiative, and Malaysia's continued importance as China's gateway into Southeast Asia.

Delegations also visited the Minning Town — a model of collaborative rural development — and the Ningdong Energy Chemical Industry Base, reflecting the breadth of cooperation pursued under the Belt and Road framework.
